Line movement, injury news, and live momentum can all flip the value of a bet after you have already placed it. We just added a Sports Hedge Calculator so you can quickly find the exact stake to place on the opposite side of a bet.
How the sports hedge calculator works
Enter your original stake, the decimal odds you took, and the current decimal odds on the opposite side. If you are hedging on a betting exchange, you can also enter the commission percentage. The calculator then shows the stake to place on the hedge and the guaranteed profit or loss for either outcome.
The math behind the tool is simple. You equalize your return on both sides of the bet so that, no matter who wins, you walk away with the same amount. If the numbers work out positive, you have found an arbitrage situation. If the numbers are negative, you have limited your loss to a known amount.

Why hedging matters in sports betting
A good opening line does not always stay a good line. Injuries, weather, or sharp money can move the market and change your expected value. Hedging lets you convert an open bet into a locked-in position without waiting for the game to end. If the numbers work out, you can even create a risk-free return by backing both sides.
Betting exchanges are especially useful for hedging because they let you lay a bet as well as back it. The calculator factors in the commission so you know the true cost of the hedge. If you are hedging with a regular sportsbook, set the commission to zero and use the other side’s current decimal odds.
A simple example
Suppose you bet 100 dollars on a team at 2.50 decimal odds. The other side is now trading at 1.90. If you bet 131.58 dollars on the other side at 1.90, you will profit roughly 18.42 dollars no matter which team wins. The calculator handles the stake sizing and the commission automatically.
